This presentation is about the ever-growing social issue of elder abuse and how it is increasing in the rapidly increasing aging population in the United States. It explains all facets of elder abuse for even the most novice reader to the topic and details how effective multidisciplinary efforts and partnerships can effectively and efficiently address elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. It shows how multiple sectors and interdisciplinary collaborations can positively contribute to reducing elder abuse.

About the Presenter....
Donna de Levante Raphael is a highly-motivated human and social services professional, and gerontologist championing the quality of life for all seniors.  She is currently a doctoral student in Human and Social Services, Sociology, Social Gerontology and Alzheimer’s disease.

She is also the Director of a Dementia consulting firm and nonprofit organization. This organization provides training programs to South Florida’s multicultural communities dealing with eldercare issues. She is a member of the Gerontological Society of America, British Gerontological Society, TAU Upsilon Alpha (National Human Services Honor Society) and International Federation on Aging. Donna has recently been participating in speaking engagements focusing on the topic of aging and Alzheimer’s disease. Donna currently holds the position as Program Services Manager at the Alzheimer’s Association while ensuring that the communities receive the opportunities regarding care, support and research on the disease. She also acts as a Care consultant and Caregiver Support Group Facilitator. When she is not engaged in these social change activities and her dissertation (‘How Stigma of Alzheimer’s Disease Creates Barriers to Recognition, Diagnosis and Treatment in the Black/African American Population’), she devotes spending time with her family, reading about history, cooking, traveling and learning languages. Donna states, “I consider myself a purposeful participant and I am committed to positive social change that is connected to my work, educational activities and my responsibilities.”
